City of Lugano Switzerland Partners with GoCrypto, Tether to Accept Bitcoin, USDT

As part of Lugano, Switzerland’s Plan ₿, a joint initiative between the City of Lugano and Tether to accelerate the use of Bitcoin, the city now accepts Bitcoin and USDT at the communities merchants. The service is using GoCrypto to enable crypto payments. USDT is Tether’s dollar-based stablecoin.

Paolo Ardoino, CTO of Tether, said that earlier this year a MOA was signed between Tether and Lugano to help local businesses to integrate stablecoins and Bitcoin for payments:

“We have been working together to ensure the technological infrastructure is in place to support this and today we watch all of that hard work come to fruition.”

Tether notes that as of today, GoCrypto payments will be available at a dozen merchants throughout the city, including McDonald’s. Citizens can easily make payments in USD₮, Bitcoin Lightning, and LVGA.

Tether anticipates that in the next month more merchants will start accepting crypto. By the end of 2023, the Plan ₿ Foundation aims to enable more than 2500 merchants to accept Bitcoin, Tether, and LVGA.
