Twitter Adds $Cashtags Feature Expanding Information for Quotes

For quite some time, Twitter users incorporated dollar “$” symbols in Tweets to highlight a ticker of a traded security.  Yesterday, Twitter announced that it was expanding this concept by linking data to ticker symbols that incorporate the “$,” including stocks, exchange-traded funds, and crypto.

Twitter explained:

When you Tweet the symbol of a major stock, ETF, or crypto currency with a $ in front of it (like $BTC), people on Twitter see a clickable link that takes them to search results. Starting today, these search results will include the pricing graphs for major symbols.

You can also search for symbols directly without clicking on a link within a Tweet. Most symbols with and without the $ sign will work in search (QQQ or $QQQ).

Twitter said that in the coming weeks’ additional features will be incorporated.

Twitter was recently taken private by serial entrepreneur Elon Musk who has quickly moved to add new features, some with success, others not so much.

Musk added to the thread stating this is just “one of many product improvements coming to financial Twitter!”
