Malaysia-based payments network and infrastructure provider PayNet has recently appointed Gary Yeoh as the firm’s new Chief Commercial Officer.
The appointment to oversee PayNet’s commercial operations comes after quite a notable year for Yeoh, who is reportedly a veteran of the Malaysian payments sector and has had brief stints working at payments platform Fave as well as BNPL Fintech Atome during 2022.
Yeoh brings considerable industry experience to his new role. As a key member of the Berjaya Loyalty program (Bcard), Yeoh had been leading the business development of Bcard in order to achieve steady growth with a base of more than 4.5 million card holders with 100+ merchants on board.
The program won various awards and recognition during his six years there, which is prior to Yeoh joining the Boost e-wallet team back in 2017. In more than four years in that role, Yeoh assisted Axiata Digital’s Fintech division to grow from an application with an intuitive user experience to a frequently-used, essential digital wallet for Malaysian customers — claiming more than 9 million users and 350,000 merchants during Yeoh’s time working at Boost.
He brought his industry knowledge/expertise in loyalty promotions and payments to Fave, where he was appointed the country manager in February of last year.
As Malaysian country manager, Yeoh was tasked with overseeing the operations as well as leading Fave’s venture into the BNPL space that was fast-growing.
The firm stated that at the time that Yeoh would also be tasked with developing the brand’s market leadership in the country in order to support the adoption of digital payment tech across Malaysia.
Fave Group CEO Joel Neoh has previously stated:
“I am confident that with Gary’s leadership, Fave will grow and further strengthen our position in Malaysia’s digital payments and BNPL landscape.”
Now, Gary Yeoh will be responsible for overseeing commercial operations for PayNet as the new CCO.
Gary Yeoh stated:
“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Chief Commercial Officer at PayNet (Payments Network Malaysia) 2023 was a interesting but tough year. Appreciate the time I spent at Fave with Joel Neoh and Chen Chow Yeoh for the first half of the year then a short but interesting stint at Atome though.”
He added:
“Looking forward to the new adventure and to catching up with old friends and to meeting new friends from the industry. Thanks to everyone that has supported me over the years and please do reach out to chat about any opportunities or help to solve any pain points via the PayNet platform.”
