In recent weeks, cybersecurity firms have issued “a dozen ransomware reports, most of which show a considerable increase in attacks,” according to an update shared with CI.
As noted in an NCC Group’s July 2023 cyber threat intelligence report, the business saw over 500 attacks last month, “a 153% rise over the previous year and a 16% increase over June, with the industrials sector remaining the most attacked.” From June to July, the business reported a 59% surge “in ransomware attacks across Europe.”
The latest spike is due in large part “to the Cl0p group, who attacked hundreds of companies via the MOVEit hack.” According to Emsisoft, the MOVEit assault had “directly and indirectly affected 730 organizations and over 47 million people as of August 19.”
However, if Cl0p’s MOVEit victims are excluded, “the number of victims actually decreased in July,” according to Guidepoint Security. In contrast, the company reportedly “saw 36 active groups in July, up from 28 the prior month.”
In other recent updates, it was reported that Iris Powered by Generali (Iris), provider of a proprietary identity and cyber protection platform, announced the launch of a white-labeled Identity Theft Resolution and Insurance offering for global enterprise and consumer cybersecurity leader, Trend Micro.
This service will be “included in Trend Premium Security Suite giving US and Canadian consumers 24/7 access to identity theft resolution to ensure users’ personal information receives best-in-class protection.”
Paige Schaffer, CEO of Iris, commented on the partnership:

Iris’ Identity Theft Resolution and Insurance is “a suite of services to help customers resolve the issues that arise when a fraudster steals their identity.”
From reviewing credit profiles to working “with local authorities, Iris’ team provides 24/7 assistance to resolve incident(s) of identity theft/fraud to prevent further damage.”
