Seedrs, a securities crowdfunding platform operating in the UK and continental Europe, has shared some numbers for platform performance during the month of January.
Seedrs reports that it listed 13 primary securities offerings during the month. When you combine private deal room activity and secondary campaigns, Seedrs says that it generated more than £8.6 million in online capital formation.
Seedrs’ private deal room caters to high net worth and sophisticated investors, providing access to issuers and VC funds. The average ticket is higher than the retail side of the business.
In January, for primary securities offerings, over 1500 investors committed £4.9 million.
The largest funding round for the month was for BIYU (Bobs Your Uncle), a Netherlands-based “circular economy marketplace” that closed on a €1.168 million funding round. BIYU describes itself as the “Netflix of Everything.” The company had a pre-money valuation of €8.9 million, is approved for the secondary market, and is a Seedrs Nominee issuer.
Two other issuers were mentioned: Planera, a flushable sanitary towel that raised £830,000, and Munro Vehicles, a creator of an electric 4×4 all-terrain vehicle, which raised £750,000
Secondary market activity during the month of January reported that £445,000 shares were transacted from 300+ different private firms.
While Seedrs’ Secondary Market remains small, it is growing, and it provides an opportunity for liquidity for private securities beyond an M&A or public offering.
The top five firms seeing secondary trading were:
- Revolut – a popular digital bank
- CheekyPanda – a bamboo toilet paper company
- Rheal – a “superfood” company
- MacRebur – a company that aims to turn waste plastics into roads
- Happy Drinks – a healthy drinks company
Revolut, a Fintech unicorn, has generated solid returns for early shareholders.
Seedrs also mentioned its 5th exit during 2023 – CleanTech firm Sennen, which was acquired by Kraken Technologies, a software provider for utilities in the UK and part of the Octopus Energy Group.
