Japan’s MyShell Raises $11m for AI Chatbot Creation on Blockchain

MyShell, a Tokyo-based innovator in the field of artificial intelligence, announced that it has successfully raised $11 million in a Pre-Series A funding round.

This recent injection of capital, led by Dragonfly Capital and supported by a consortium of investors including Delphi Ventures, Bankless Ventures, Maven11 Capital, Nascent, Nomad Capital, and OKX Ventures, elevates the total funding for the company to $16.6 million.

The company’s platform combines blockchain technology with artificial intelligence, offering a decentralized ecosystem where users can create and deploy productivity apps and chatbots.

Utilizing crypto tokens as incentives, creators earn royalties as their applications engage users, fostering a vibrant community of developers.

Predominantly, MyShell’s ecosystem has become a hub for the creation of AI companions, including chatbots styled after anime characters and other fictional or historical personas, according to the announcement.

These chatbots serve as interactive companions, thanks to MyShell’s application layer which simplifies the creation process for developers.

To facilitate this innovation, MyShell offers a “Workshop” for crafting AI agents through prompts and a “Makerspace” — a no-code AI workflow builder designed for creators.

The platform boasts over 1 million registered users and more than 50,000 creators, demonstrating significant engagement in its unique offering.

Ethan Sun, Chief Executive of MyShell, highlighted the company’s mission to reshape the AI creator ecosystem.

“With this new funding, we’re not just scaling our operations, we’re catalyzing a movement towards a more open, collaborative, and democratic AI landscape,” Sun remarked.

MyShell’s commitment to open-source and decentralized development has already borne fruit, with several significant projects such as OpenVoice, a highly rated voice cloning AI model; MeloTTS, an open-source text-to-speech technology; and AIlice, a framework for AI development workflows, emerging from its platform.

Looking ahead, MyShell plans to allocate the newly acquired funds towards enhancing its open-source AI foundation model, collaborating with creators to develop new AI agents, establishing an AI assets trading platform, and bolstering support for the open-source community.

This strategy aims to further entrench MyShell’s position as a leader in democratizing AI development and deployment.
