The House Financial Services Committee has placed two more hearings of note on its calendar.
First is a hearing on ESG, or Environmental, Social, and Governance—a buzzy word that took industry by storm only to recede as the nebulous concept emerged as a distracting political issue that fell short of lofty and ephemeral goals that typically veered beyond demanded services. The Securities and Exchange Commission has also fallen prey to the trap, having crafted new climate impact rules only to be halted by the courts.
The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee has scheduled a hearing entitled: “The Fall of ESG: Scrutinizing the Failed Use of Environmental, Social, & Governance Standards and the Influence of Proxy Advisors.”
This hearing will take place on Tuesday, July 30th, at 10 AM ET.
The Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Inclusion Subcommittee will hold a hearing on the same day entitled: “Decoding DeFi: Breaking Down the Future for Decentralized Finance.”
While garnering a lot of hype, the realities of DeFi, or decentralized finance, have fallen short of aspirations. While removing costly friction from financial services makes a lot of sense, the technology has not yet reached general adoption.
The DeFi hearing will take place on July 30th at 2 PM ET.
Both hearings will be live-streamed on the Committee’s website.
UPDATE: The House Financial Services Committee has postponed these two hearings. CI will update when the new dates are announced.
