Superchief Gallery has tokenized $5.1 million in the art, according to a note from the firm. Founded in 2012 in Brooklyn, New York, Superchief claims the title as the world’s first NFT gallery. The gallery has also worked with Christie’s and the first CryptoPunk auction.
The gallery states that a “full art collection” will be made available to purchase on-chain as tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) via the Boson Protocol.
The tokenized art collection is said to encompass 85 pieces of unique art from artists like Louise Nevelson, a 20th-century sculptor whose work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art; Buffie Johnson, a leading figure in American abstract art, and Ibram Lassaw, a sculptor who was part of the New York School of Abstract expressionism during the 1940s and 1950s.
The partnership is described as a “significant milestone” in Boson’s adoption as they report increased demand for tokenized RWAs.
The collaboration is said to confirm the appeal of trading art as a tokenized real-world asset class.
