Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council Comments on Election Outcome: Bad Policy During Biden-Harris Administration Took a Toll on Entrepreneurs

The Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) has issued a statement following the election of Donald Trump as the nation’s 47th President.

SBE Council is a non-partisan advocacy group that seeks to promote policies that support smaller firms and entrepreneurs. The group frequently comments on legislation that impact smaller firms.

SBE Council President & CEO Karen Kerrigan stated:

“Economic uncertainty, elevated costs, and bad policy for the duration of the Biden-Harris Administration imposed an outsized toll on America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. As revealed in SBE Council’s pre-election survey, small business owners picked Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris, given their belief the former president would better lead the country on all the major issues, particularly the economy.  Entrepreneurs want and need a policy environment that encourages investment, innovation, and growth. Not one that punishes them for succeeding, and creating jobs and financial prosperity for their communities and families.

“U.S. competitiveness and innovation have suffered under policies that undermine our businesses, both at home and abroad. SBE Council looks forward to working with the incoming Trump administration and Congress on advancing policies that lower elevated costs, restore stability and growth in our economy, and support our entrepreneurs as they work to launch their ideas and grow their businesses.”

While Harris sought to position her campaign as seeking to develop an “innovation” economy, the policy was short on details. At the same time, her intent to raise taxes on individuals who start new firms, including a tax on unrealized capital gains, undermined her protestations that she supported entrepreneurs.
