Alpaca Introduces Fixed-Income Trading, Providing Equities-Like Experience for Global Retail Order Flow

Alpaca, a “developer-first” API brokerage platform, is focused in enhancing the ecosystem of financial services with various product offerings, strategic partnerships, and a new funding round.

These developments underscore Alpaca’s mission to democratize access to financial markets globally, enabling businesses and retail investors.

From launching fixed-income trading to securing a $52 million Series C funding round, Alpaca is focused on positioning itself as a key player in embedded fintech solutions.

Alpaca has introduced fixed-income trading, a significant addition to its Broker API suite, aimed at delivering an equities-like experience for global retail order flow.

This move addresses a critical gap in retail access to fixed-income securities, such as bonds, which have traditionally been less accessible due to high minimum investment thresholds and complex processes.

By leveraging its API-driven infrastructure, Alpaca enables integration of fixed-income trading into partner platforms, offering retail investors the ability to diversify portfolios with bonds alongside stocks, ETFs, and crypto.

The platform’s commission-free model and low-latency execution ensure cost efficiency and speed, aligning with Alpaca’s goal of making financial services inclusive.

This innovation enhances portfolio diversification and taps into investor demand for stable, income-generating assets in volatile markets.

Recently, Alpaca partnered with Kraken, one of the world’s largest digital asset exchanges, to offer trading in over 11,000 U.S. stocks and ETFs on Kraken’s platform.

This partnership leverages Alpaca’s self-clearing broker-dealer capabilities and Broker API to integrate traditional securities with Kraken’s crypto and fiat offerings.

The collaboration bridges the gap between digital and traditional assets, creating a unified multi-asset trading experience for Kraken’s global user base of over 15 million.

Alpaca’s infrastructure supports notional and fractional orders, enabling commission-free trading and enhancing accessibility for retail investors.

CEO Yoshi Yokokawa acknowledged Kraken’s progressive approach, noting that the partnership exemplifies Alpaca’s role in supporting innovative financial platforms worldwide.

This move strengthens Alpaca’s footprint in the nascent digital assets space and reinforces its position as a brokerage infrastructure provider.

Alpaca’s growth trajectory received a boost with a $52 million Series C funding round, announced in April 2025.

Led by new and returning investors, including Derayah Financial, Portage Ventures, and Unbound, the round brings Alpaca’s total funding to over $170 million.

The capital will fuel global expansion and accelerate product development, including 24/5 trading and Fully Paid Securities Lending (FPSL).

Alpaca’s 2024 milestones—becoming a self-clearing broker-dealer, launching options trading, and introducing instant funding—highlight its commitment to innovation.

The funding will also support Alpaca’s expansion into key regions like the Middle East and Asia, where demand for U.S. securities is surging.

With overseas investors owning $16.5 trillion in U.S. equities in Q4 2024, Alpaca is positioned to capture this growing market by enabling global fintechs and institutions with its infrastructure.

Alpaca’s global impact is evident through its partnership with Dime!, a Thai fintech enhancing the investing experience.

By integrating Alpaca’s Broker API, Dime! offers fractional share trading, affordable tax filing, and a user-friendly platform that makes U.S. stocks accessible to Thai retail investors.

This collaboration aligns with Alpaca’s mission to open financial services to everyone, enabling Thai investors to participate in global markets with as little as $1.

Dime!’s success highlights Alpaca’s ability and focus on supporting regional fintechs to localize and scale investment solutions, fostering financial inclusion in underserved markets.

With over 150 businesses across 30 countries leveraging its APIs, Alpaca’s recent updates cement its role as a global player in brokerage infrastructure.

The launch of fixed-income trading, the Kraken partnership, the Series C funding, and collaborations like Dime! highlights Alpaca’s versatility and commitment to innovation.
