WisdomTree, a global firm focused on asset management, has unveiled a comprehensive stablecoin strategy that aims to position the firm at the center of blockchain-enabled finance.
Detailed in a recent blog post by Will Peck, Head of Digital Assets at WisdomTree, the strategy leverages the company’s USDW stablecoin and its tokenized money market fund, WTGXX, to create an ecosystem for retail and institutional investors.
With the passage of the GENIUS Act and growing regulatory clarity, WisdomTree is poised to capitalize on the projected growth of the stablecoin market, expected to reach $3.7 trillion by 2030.
WisdomTree’s approach is built on three pillars: compliant capital, scalable blockchain infrastructure, and integrated financial solutions.
At the core of this strategy is USDW, a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin issued by WisdomTree Digital Trust Company, a New York-chartered trust.
Previously branded as WUSD, USDW operates on the Stellar blockchain but is set to expand to additional blockchains, enhancing its interoperability.
Unlike pseudo-stablecoins that rely on internal ledgers, USDW is a blockchain asset, ensuring transparency and security for users.
Currently, it facilitates dividend payments for WisdomTree’s tokenized funds and is being adapted for broader use cases, including payments and treasury operations.
A key part of WisdomTree’s strategy is its tokenized Government Money Market Digital Fund, WTGXX, which has seen growth in 2025, with assets under management soaring from $12 million to $486 million as of July 18, 2025.
WTGXX’s appeal lies in its compliance with regulatory standards set by the GENIUS Act and the New York Department of Financial Services.
As a 1940 Act-registered money market fund, it qualifies as a reserve asset for stablecoin issuers, addressing a critical need in the market.
WisdomTree is enhancing WTGXX with features like 24/7 interest accrual, peer-to-peer transferability, and extended primary market order windows, making it a useful tool for blockchain-native clients.
The timing of WisdomTree’s strategy aligns with significant regulatory and market developments.
The GENIUS Act, recently passed by the Senate, establishes a robust framework for digital dollars, emphasizing compliance and restricting foreign issuance.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has highlighted the stablecoin market’s potential, projecting its growth from $252 billion in July 2025 to $3.7 trillion by decade’s end.
This optimism is echoed by the strong IPO performance of Circle, the issuer of USDC, signaling public market confidence in stablecoins and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization.
Traditional financial firms like Visa, Mastercard, and JPMorgan are also entering the stablecoin space, underscoring its evolution beyond crypto trading into payments and core financial infrastructure.
WisdomTree’s stablecoin strategy is not exclusionary.
While USDW is central, the firm supports other stablecoins like USDC and PYUSD, enabling retail users to deposit and withdraw via these tokens on WisdomTree Prime, its direct-to-retail app.
For institutional clients, WisdomTree Connect, a B2B and B2B2C platform, has facilitated $200 million in flows from USDC into tokenized funds.
The platform’s integration with Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, and Optimism blockchains enhances accessibility, allowing clients to hold tokenized assets in self-hosted or third-party custodial wallets.
This multi-chain approach reflects WisdomTree’s commitment to meeting client needs while bridging traditional and decentralized finance.
Looking ahead, WisdomTree is set to capitalize on the addressable market for onchain financial products.
The firm’s infrastructure, including its Token Issuance Platform, supports asset management and transaction capabilities.
By offering fiat-to-crypto on- and off-ramps and leveraging blockchain technology for efficiency, WisdomTree aims to enhance financial services.
As stablecoins gain traction in emerging markets and institutional adoption accelerates, WisdomTree’s full-stack approach—combining regulatory compliance, digital technology, and various products—positions it as a key player in the tokenized finance space.
In conclusion, WisdomTree’s stablecoin strategy is a step toward integrating blockchain technology with traditional finance.
By leveraging USDW and WTGXX, the firm is hoping it can continue meeting current market demands while shaping the future of digital dollars, ensuring they play a role in payments, investing, and treasury management.
