Fintech Airwallex Partners with European Payments Initiative (EPI)

Airwallex, a global financial platform for modern businesses, announced its partnership with the European Payments Initiative (EPI), which developed Wero, the European digital wallet. Via this collab, Airwallex becomes a Principal Member of EPI, allowing merchants on its platform to offer Wero Wallet as a payment method across European markets.

Airwallex’s recent tie-up with EPI marks a step forward in addressing Europe’s increasingly complex payments sector, where several different A2A offerings coexist at the same time, with varying rules and infrastructure.

By integrating Wero, Airwallex clients should be able to get direct access to this payment method from launch, allowing merchants to potentially reach more consumers and enhance transactions across jurisdictions.

Wero is Europe’s digital wallet, meant to bring together and enhance account-to-account payments across the region.

Currently being supported by 16 European banking institutions and payment service providers – and claiming more than 45 million users and €7.5 billion+ in transactions – Wero intends to effectively replace fragmented local A2A solutions with a more efficient payment experience.

For merchants, this collab basically means improved access to consumers across Europe, reduced dependence on traditional card networks, and a  solution that is reportedly aligned with regulatory and security standards established within the European Union.

The Wero Wallet is set to be rolled out for digital commerce payments in Germany from the end of this year, and should be followed by France and Belgium next year, with POS acceptance to follow soon after that.

As covered, Fintech Airwallex says that it is building the future of global banking. As a financial and payments platform for businesses, they offer solutions to manage payments, business accounts, corporate cards, spend management, embedded financial services.

Founded in Melbourne and currently being used by brands like BILL, Bolt, Brex, Canva, Deel, Navan and Qantas, Airwallex claims that it is transforming how businesses manage finances and payments internationally.
