Yieldstreet Rebrands to Willow Wealth, Looks to Move Beyond Investor Loss of Over $200 Million

Online investment platform Yieldstreet has rebranded as Willow Wealth as part of an effort to move beyond the bad press and investor losses it has endured. The rebranding took place in October 2025 as the platform looks to move beyond a few difficult years while expanding its investment options.

In early December, CNBC reported experiencing defaults in Nashville and Houston. The $41 million in losses followed other losses, including a marine loan investment that went bad. The report indicated that, in total, Willow Wealth has experienced around $208 million in investor losses. One academic was quoted explaining the platform had to rebrand to get beyond the losses.

Additionally, Willow Wealth is offering evergreen private-market funds alongside in-house-sourced opportunities.

The relatively new CEO, Mitchell Caplan, was previously CEO of ETrade, now a part of Morgan Stanley. He joined the firm’s board before taking over the leadership role in 2021, following a $100 million funding round to help backstop the platform. The two founders, Milind Mehere and Michael Weisz, continue to serve on the board of directors.

Today, Willow Street highlights the benefits of private markets, including private credit, private equity, real estate, and other services like a Robo-advisor to automate portfolio management. The site states that private markets can generate better risk-adjusted returns when compared to a more standard stock and bond portfolio. A recent review on Investopedia claims a 4.4/5 stars for the best alternative investment selection.

While Yieldstreet is no more the theses on private securities and alternative investments still hold true. Private markets have been growing rapidly as more traditional markets have been a bit moribund. The strategy of diversification beyond a 60/40 portfolio makes sense. Now Willow needs to show up and execute and drive returns that beat the growing number of competitors.
