The House Financial Services Committee is holding a hearing today addressing the tokenization of securities. As everyone knows, securities are going digital. This will bring important improvements to all constituent parties, including issuers, investors, and any platforms that enable these operations.
The hearing memo explains:
“This hearing will examine how tokenization is being used in our capital markets and whether existing securities laws and regulations adequately govern these activities. It will also explore potential regulatory gaps, ambiguities, or duplicative requirements that could pose risks to investors or hinder innovation. In addition, the hearing will assess the broader implications of tokenization for market integrity, investor protection, and capital formation.”
Posting on X, Kevin Wysocki, Head of Policy at Anchorage Digital, commented on the hearing:
“Tokenization is moving from concept to implementation, and the policy conversation is shifting from ‘if’ to ‘how’. The [House Financial Services Committee] hearing on tokenization today is a critical step to ensure we modernize capital markets securely, compliantly, and at an institutional scale.”
The following individuals will testify in front of the Committee:
- Kenneth Bentsen, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer, SIFMA
- Summer Mersinger, Chief Executive Officer, Blockchain Association
- Christian Sabella, Managing Director and Deputy General Counsel, DTCC
- John Zecca, Executive Vice President and Global Chief Legal, Risk and Regulatory Officer, Nasdaq
- Salman Banaei, General Counsel, Plume Network
While some are against innovation, the majority are inclined to support digital assets and tokenization of securities. Yet the path to regulatory clarity will take some time.
