UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Pursues Consultation on Crypto

The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has posted a consultation on crypto.

The securities regulator noted taht beginning October 2027, crypto will be regulated by the agency. This fact means that the FCA must provide new guidance for participants in the crypto sector and thus is seeking input on the regulatory regime for digital assets.

The consultation targets the following areas:

    • issuing qualifying stablecoin
    • operating trading platforms
    • dealing and arranging deals in qualifying cryptoassets
    • safeguarding cryptoassets
    • staking

The FCA states it seeks an “open, sustainable and competitive crypto market.”

Digital asset firms may begin seeking authorization under the new rules starting this September. The regulator noted that, until now, crypto firms are “largely unregulated.”

The consultation, available below, closed on June 3, 2026.
