Ondo Finance Weighs Potential Acquisition Valued Between $250 Million and $500 Million

Ondo Finance, a player focused on tokenizing real-world assets, is assessing a possible acquisition in the range of $250 million to $500 million. According to bloomingbit, a source familiar with the discussions said the New York-based firm is examining opportunities, particularly in wealth technology and related financial segments, as part of broader expansion plans.

The process remains preliminary at the time of writing. Ondo has not engaged formal advisors for any transaction at this stage, according to the individual, who requested anonymity due to the confidential nature of the matter.

No specific target has been identified publicly, and talks with potential sellers have not begun.

Established in 2021 by executives with prior experience at Goldman Sachs, Ondo specializes in moving conventional financial instruments onto blockchain networks. Its offerings include tokenized versions of US Treasuries and equities.

The platform ranks among the leading providers in the tokenized real-world asset space, overseeing more than $3.5 billion in assets across its products. In response to inquiries, an Ondo Finance spokesperson stated that the company routinely reviews market conditions as part of standard operations for a rapidly expanding business.

The representative emphasized that Ondo Finance is not currently engaged in discussions with any counterparties regarding an acquisition.

This exploration occurs against a backdrop of sustained merger and acquisition activity within the cryptocurrency sector throughout 2026.

Traditional finance institutions and larger digital asset firms have increasingly turned to deals to secure regulatory licenses, proprietary technology, and expanded distribution channels.

Industry data shows the sector logged 89 transactions totaling $3.2 billion in the first quarter, followed by disclosed deal value of $12.9 billion in the second quarter—the second-highest quarterly figure on record.

Key areas of interest include payments, stablecoins, custody solutions, tokenization platforms, and institutional trading infrastructure.

Notable recent transactions illustrate the trend: Keyrock acquired trading and brokerage assets from BlockFills, Kraken completed a $550 million purchase of derivatives exchange Bitnomial, and Bullish, owner of CoinDesk, agreed to buy investment platform Equiniti for approximately $4.2 billion.

Ondo itself has operated with relatively modest capital raised to date—approximately $24 million in venture funding plus around $10 million from a public sale of its ONDO token.

This lean funding profile positions it as one of the more capital-efficient infrastructure players in crypto, especially given the substantial volume of assets under its management.

A deal in the contemplated range would significantly exceed its historical fundraising totals and could potentially involve equity or other non-cash consideration.

Following the report, the ONDO token rose about 6 percent over a 24-hour period, trading near $0.42.

A successful move into wealth technology could provide Ondo with access to networks of financial advisors, portfolio management tools, or distribution channels serving traditional investors.

Such a step would complement its existing focus on bringing institutional-grade assets onchain and align with the accelerating consolidation across crypto infrastructure. While no deal is assured and the evaluation remains early-stage, the development underscores growing interest in scaling tokenization capabilities through strategic combinations as the sector matures.
