UK: FCA and NCA Partner on Arrests Tied to Insider Trading

The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the National Crime Agency have partnered to arrest several individuals allegedly linked to insider trading violations.

According to an FCA statement, authorities arrested 3 individuals and searched five homes. The enforcement action saw officers seize 30 mobile phones, laptops and tablets as the investigation continues.

Steve Smart, executive director of enforcement and market oversight at the FCA, said insider dealing is a serious threat and that the FCA will continue to use the powers at its disposal to “crack down on serious, organized crime groups engaged in market abuse.”

The FCA has not yet released any names or details on the genesis of the arrests. In the last cycle (2025/26), four insider trading convictions were secured, with some perpetrators jailed and 12 people fined £1.77 million in aggregate. Still, insider trading can be notoriously difficult to prosecute, and apprehensions do not guarantee a conviction.

Notably, the resources committed to the arrests, around 100 personnel, indicate a significant commitment to the resources needed for individuals deemed to be breaking securities law.

In late September, the FCA joined the Metropolitan Police in a joint operation against organized crime that allegedly included money laundering and other crimes. As part of this enforcement action, the FCA investigated and shut down multiple firms.

The net result is that technology is not only improving services for the masses but also making illicit activity easier, and the FCA has made pursuing financial crime a priority going forward.
