Bitcoin Price Holds Near $75K as Arthur Hayes Warns of Near-Term Pressure While Grayscale Sees Institutional BTC Demand Holding

Bitcoin (BTC) has weathered a period of broad market pressure in early November 2026, with the largest cryptocurrency trading near $75,800 after sliding from levels above $80,000 earlier in the month.

Global risk assets faced concurrent declines, driven by weaker-than-expected corporate results in technology sectors and the political implications of midterm election outcomes.

Despite these conditions, BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes has maintained a constructive longer-term perspective on Bitcoin and the surrounding digital asset environment, even while flagging near-term constraints.

Hayes, the current chief investment officer at Maelstrom, recently noted that dollar liquidity measures have begun to recover after earlier softness.

He indicated that Bitcoin is likely to remain under pressure until the Federal Reserve or commercial banks expand their balance sheets, thereby injecting additional funding capacity into the system.

Commercial bank credit creation can expand deposits independently of central bank asset purchases, offering one potential channel for renewed liquidity.

Hayes has previously linked substantial Bitcoin price appreciation to periods of aggressive monetary expansion, including an eventual path toward seven-figure valuations once such conditions materialize.

In the interim, his stance emphasizes patience rather than immediate directional commitment, consistent with reduced activity in certain directional holdings.

These market dynamics coincide with a significant shift in the U.S. political landscape.

Democrats secured majorities in both chambers of Congress following the November 3 midterm elections, flipping numerous seats and establishing control that will take effect when the new Congress convenes in January.

Galaxy Digital’s research analysis highlighted that this outcome raises the prospect of intensified congressional examination of cryptocurrency businesses connected to President Donald Trump and his family.

Incoming committee chairs are expected to prioritize oversight of entities such as World Liberty Financial, its USD1 stablecoin, related token offerings, and associated foreign investment arrangements.

The firm anticipated that Washington’s broader policy focus would tilt toward stricter scrutiny of conflicts of interest and market conduct, absorbing substantial industry attention that might otherwise have supported legislative progress.

At the same time, Galaxy observed that federal regulators under the existing administration are likely to continue refining digital asset frameworks using authorities already available to them.

With two years remaining in the current term, agencies including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and banking supervisors can advance rule clarifications and interpretive guidance without new congressional mandates.

This dual track—heightened legislative oversight alongside ongoing administrative development—suggests a period of elevated uncertainty rather than an abrupt regulatory freeze.

On-chain metrics from Glassnode provide additional context for recent price action.

Analysis indicates notable supply concentration in the mid-$80,000 range, where a material portion of Bitcoin last changed hands.

Roughly 4.3 percent of circulating supply, equating to more than 860,000 BTC, moved on-chain near $84,000–$85,000 in late 2025.

Bitcoin has recorded only a limited number of daily closes above this zone in 2026, and successive attempts higher have faded.

Long-term holders, defined as entities retaining coins for at least 155 days, control approximately four million BTC acquired between $85,000 and $118,000, predominantly during 2025. More than half of these holdings sit above current prices.

A sustained recovery toward the lower end of that range could therefore encounter increased distribution as holders seek to recover acquisition costs.

Glassnode has noted that consecutive daily closes above $85,000 would be required to convert the zone into support, while short-term holder cost bases and exchange-traded fund holder averages have also influenced recent support and resistance.

Derivatives data tracked by CoinGlass underscores elevated leverage and liquidation risk around current levels.

Clusters of long-position liquidations sit several percent below recent prices, while short liquidations concentrate higher, creating potential for amplified moves in either direction.

Recent sessions have seen substantial long-side liquidations during downside moves, consistent with leveraged positioning that amplifies volatility when spot markets weaken.

Open interest and funding dynamics have fluctuated, with periods of recovering long interest even as broader selling pressure persists.

These patterns align with the observed correlation between Bitcoin and traditional risk assets during the latest equity market declines.

In conclusion, the current environment reflects the intersection of macro liquidity conditions, political realignment, concentrated on-chain supply, and derivatives positioning.

Hayes’ framework centers on balance-sheet expansion as a prerequisite for renewed upside, while Galaxy’s assessment points to a more adversarial congressional posture that may complicate policy timelines even as regulators proceed under existing statutes.

Glassnode’s cost-basis mapping and CoinGlass liquidation profiles illustrate structural factors that could constrain near-term recoveries until either liquidity improves or holder distribution is absorbed. Market participants will monitor forthcoming Federal Reserve balance-sheet data, bank credit trends, and the early agenda-setting of the incoming Congress for further clarity.
