The Manchester Evening News, a daily circulation publication with circulation of 52,000, has launched a donations campaign on JustGiving to raise £2 million to support the families of the victims killed and wounded in the tragic Manchester Arena attack. The campaign, operated in partnership with the British Red Cross, has now raised over £1.2 million in just 2 days from more than 40,000 supporters. JustGiving will not be taking any fees on this campaign.

As the world knows, a horrific terror attack took place in Manchester, UK this week. Reports place the death toll at 22 people and 59 injured. The Manchester Evening News said that readers have been reaching out to ask how they can help in the aftermath of the horrible attack so the publication launched the donations based campaign. The organizers explain:

“The money raised by the Manchester Evening News and its readers will be administered by the British Red Cross, who are offering support to affected families. All of it will go to the families.  We are so grateful for the support so far and can’t thank the people of Manchester enough. If you are a company wishing to make a larger donation please email website@men-news.co.uk and we’ll be in touch.”

The donations are mainly small and a good number are from supporters outside the UK. The ‘We Stand Together Manchester’ fund raised over £250,000 in just six hours.
