SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce is planning to depart the Commission this coming fall and join the Regent University School of Law as an Associate Professor. Peirce is well known for her support of Fintech innovation and for leading the Crypto Task Force at the SEC. Peirce frequently posts commentary on securities policy, leveraging her experience and wit to advocate for improved rules for both consumers and businesses. Peirce became a Commissioner in 2018.
In a statement, Regent announced that Peirce will join Regent Law in November 2026. At one point, Peirce was conducting research at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. She has also served as Senior Counsel on the Senate Committee on Banking and Counsel to current SEC Chair Paul Atkins. She earned her JD from the Yale School of Law and her BA from Case Western Reserve University, located in her home state of Ohio.
While Washington, DC, is losing a staunch supporter of common-sense securities law, Regent is located in Virginia Beach, a few hours away from the nation’s capital, so you can expect Peirce to remain a prominent influencer in the digital asset and securities law sector.
Regent, founded in 1977, is a Christian university with approximately 14,000 students. The law school, founded in 1986, is known for its expertise in public policy. The class of 2025 reported record employment outcomes while ranking 7th in the nation for judicial clerkships.
