South Korean Crypto Exchange Bithumb Targets 2028 IPO

South Korea’s cryptocurrency platform Bithumb has outlined a multi-year plan to go public, targeting completion of its initial public offering in 2028. The exchange shared details of this roadmap in an official customer notice on August 3, 2026, emphasizing that the process is designed to elevate corporate standards and reinforce trust among users.

According to the announcement, Bithumb views the listing not merely as a means to expand its size but as a foundational step toward creating a more reliable environment for digital asset trading.

The company stressed its responsibility to lead greater transparency and credibility across South Korea’s virtual asset sector as these assets become more integrated into everyday finance.

Preparations center on several key improvements. First, the platform is building risk management systems that match the rigorous standards expected of regulated financial institutions and global listed companies.

It is working closely with top domestic accounting firms and shifting from the Korean Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to the Korean International Financial Reporting Standards.

At the same time, compliance monitoring and internal control procedures for staff are being significantly strengthened to align with institutional finance levels.

Second, Bithumb has restructured its operations, including the separation of Bithumb Asset.

This move aims to clearly define responsibilities across different business units, simplify the overall structure, and eliminate potential conflicts of interest, thereby establishing governance that markets can trust.

Third, the exchange is focusing on resilient management practices.

It is diversifying its business model and building liquid reserves to maintain stability amid the inherent volatility of digital asset markets, creating a foundation for consistent shareholder value even after listing.

Fourth, regular and accurate public disclosures of financial conditions, key management updates, and virtual asset holdings will support a transparent market environment.

Fifth, the company is collaborating with major domestic and international securities firms, law firms, and accounting experts to handle valuation, legal assessments, and strategies for the preliminary review process under conservative and thorough standards.

Finally, Bithumb is expanding communication channels with the media, investors, related institutions, and customers through regular updates and proactive responses to issues.

The timeline follows three clear stages. In 2026, the focus remains on completing advanced internal controls and preparing the accounting standards transition.

In 2027, the exchange intends to submit its application for a preliminary listing review and proceed through the examination.

The full IPO is then targeted for completion in 2028. Officials noted that this schedule may adjust based on shifts in market conditions or the timing of regulatory reviews.

Bithumb described the public listing as a formal validation of its integrity and long-term viability by the broader market and investors.

The company pledged outcomes that include clearer governance, stronger internal controls and compliance, enhanced investor safeguards, diversified growth foundations, and management systems meeting global capital market expectations.

By pursuing these changes, Bithumb positions itself to contribute to higher standards across the industry while prioritizing customer confidence and asset protection. The platform invited continued support as it works toward becoming a more dependable and socially responsible player in South Korea’s digital assets ecosystem.
