Accenture (NYSE: ACN) has reached an agreement to buy Tokyo-based COMWARE Co., Ltd., a move designed to expand its mid-market offering in Japan and deepen the capabilities of Accenture Edge, a unit created in June 2026 to help smaller and mid-sized firms use artificial intelligence and overhaul day-to-day operations.
Financial details of the deal were not released.
COMWARE supplies complete technology services to mid-market clients, with particular strength in implementing and running IT systems as well as in SAP and customer-relationship platforms.
More than 180 of its specialists will join Accenture, adding capacity as Accenture Edge grows.
The combination is intended to broaden support for digital-core programs built on AI, data and cloud technology.
Established in September 2000, COMWARE has spent more than two decades helping Japanese companies install, develop, maintain and operate core business systems.
It has substantial experience in discrete manufacturing, covering both make-to-order and make-to-plan production, and in process industries such as chemicals and food.
Those operational insights and long-standing customer ties will now sit inside Accenture.
For more than 25 years the firm has worked as a partner of SAP Japan, delivering SAP projects quickly through its own “COMet” implementation template.
More recently it has added Salesforce work as a CRM partner.
Dai Hamaoka, Accenture’s representative director, president and Japan country managing director, said that as AI becomes central to how companies run and compete, the ability to move fast now determines better decisions, higher productivity and stronger market position.
He argued that COMWARE’s familiarity with mid-market organizations, its people and its client relationships, paired with Accenture’s global delivery model and AI-led change services, will let the firm offer scalable, repeatable transformation programs to a wider set of Japanese customers and convert technology change into measurable business results.
Tetsu Kayama, president of COMWARE, said the company has focused on SAP-centered ERP since its founding.
With AI reshaping the sector, he explained, the firm needed a larger platform to grow.
Becoming part of Accenture, he added, will give employees a broader stage and allow the combined team to do more for the transformation and expansion of companies across Japan.Accenture Edge is positioned as a dedicated channel for mid-market firms.
It draws on Accenture’s large-enterprise experience and partner network to supply pre-configured, appropriately sized solutions that modernize core systems, introduce AI, tighten security and simplify operations at pace.
The parent company describes itself as a reinvention partner that builds digital cores and applies AI so organizations can create value quickly.
It employs roughly 799,000 people, serves about 9,000 clients and reported approximately $70 billion in fiscal 2025 revenue.
Its services span cybersecurity, finance, supply chain, talent and industry-specific work, with particular emphasis on AI and data.
The acquisition remains subject to customary closing conditions.
Once completed, it is expected to give Accenture a stronger local presence among Japanese mid-market manufacturers and other mid-sized enterprises that want to modernize their systems without the scale or complexity typical of global corporations.
By folding COMWARE’s implementation templates, industry knowledge and existing relationships into Accenture Edge, the firm aims to shorten project timelines and make AI-enabled change more accessible to a segment of the Japanese economy that has often lacked dedicated, right-sized transformation support.
