Kickstarter Hits New Milestone: Surpasses $2 Billion Total Dollars

On Wednesday, crowdfunding leader Kickstarter announced that it hit a huge milestone last month.

The platform shared:

Kickstarter 3“On October 11th, the Kickstarter community pledged its two billionth dollar towards bringing creativity to life. Six and a half years into Kickstarter’s history, this new way of making things is definitely not slowing down. It took us 4 years and 10 months to hit $1 billion pledged, and just 1/3 of that time to hit $2 billion. About $1,200 has been pledged every minute since we hit the $1 billion milestone in March 2014, and 9 projects have launched every hour.

“Our community has never been stronger. Of the 9.5 million people who have backed projects, 862,000 have backed more than five, and 36,000 have backed more than 50. Then there are the 49 people who have backed more than 1,000 projects!”

It was also noted:

“When people think of Kickstarter, many think of tech projects. But the categories with the greatest number of successful projects are actually Film & Video, Music, and Publishing.”
