Cryptozoic Entertainment & Sony’s “Ghostbusters: The Board Game II” Secures Half a Million in 3 Days on Kickstarter

Ghostbusters II 3

Just three days after Cryptozoic Entertainment and Sony Pictures Consumer Products launched Ghostbusters: The Board Game II on Kickstarter, backers have secured half a million for the new game. The initiative originally sought to raise $250,000 and achieved the goal within just two hours.

Ghostbusters 5Ghostbusters:The Board Game II features an original story by IDW Comics’ Ghostbusters writer Erik Burnham in which Vigo and his minions return to the city, causing rioting and earthquakes to break out all over New York City. Comic book artist Dan Schoening also returns with his signature Ghostbusters style. Ghostbusters: The Board Game II’s cooperative gameplay and modular design allow for highly customizable scenarios and nearly endless re-playability. This stand-alone expansion lets players hop in the Ecto-1a for a quick half hour session, or strap on their Proton Packs for a full-fledged ghostbusting campaign, making it the perfect game for board game veterans and beginners alike.

The new board game allows players to:

  • Switch between Proton and Slime Blower Packs with new custom figures and double-sided Character Cards.
  • Battle challenging new Plazm enemies that combine into stronger versions to attack and split up in defense. Immune to Proton Streams, these phantoms can only be taken down by Ghostbusters wielding Slime Blower packs.
  • Use new Ghosts to bring new Slime tokens that can inhibit the Ghostbusters’ sight, movement, maneuvers and combat rolls.
  • Recover stolen experimental Ghostbusting equipment and level the playing field with new weapon, trap, utility and tome cards to survive challenging Event Cards and reap the rewards before things go from worse to apocalyptic.

Ghost BustersThe new game’s basic features include: 54Miniatures, such as 4 Courtroom Ghostbusters, 4 Slime Blower Ghostbusters, The Scoleri Brothers, and Vigo the Carpathian plus 12 double-sided map tiles, custom dice and tokens; some of which can be used for advanced gameplay variants. Two expansions starring Louis Tully and Slimer as playable characters are also available for backers.

Cryptozoic Entertainment and Sony Pictures Consumer Products previously teamed up for the original Ghostbusters: the Board Game. The companies secured $1,546,269 from 8,396 Kickstarter backers.

The new initiative is set to close at the beginning of May.
