2012 SEC Government Business Forum on Small Business Capital Formation
The hearings today commenced with the regular round of introductions and accolades. Below are some of the comments from the various Commissioners from the opening statements:
Commissioner Walter
…we will have failed not only investors but small businesses
Referring to the SEC’s mandate to craft regulations in a way that leads to industry success, and more specifically the consequences of not doing so.
Commissioner Aguilar
Independent businesses with less than 500 employees account for half of the jobs in the United States. These are essential to a strong economy, but fair disclosure rules and investor protection help in capital formation
Commissioner Paredes
Now more than ever we need to take concrete steps to promote small businesses. We cannot just talk about promoting small business. We need action. The Jobs Act is a significant step in the right direction.
Commissioner Gallagher
