Surpassing the success of Double Fine Adventure, the game Torment: Tides of Numenera crowdfunded a total of $4,188,927 which closed this past weekend. The initial target was $900,000. Over 74,000 backers supported this crowdfunding home run on Kickstarter.
The crowdfunding project, operated by InXile entertainment out of Newport Beach, California, created a Stretch goal at two levels which they continued after the official close by using Pay Pal. This made Tides of Numenera the most successful crowdfunding campaign ever for a video game.
All of us made history yesterday, reaching a new record for the most funded video game on Kickstarter! Thank you so much for your support, both through your pledges and through your spreading the word to others.
We had 74,405 backers on Kickstarter, raising $4,188,927. As of midmorning yesterday, we had about 2K backers and $127K through PayPal. In the last day, we reached the two major Stretch Goals at $4M and $4.25M, and also the 12th Fathom, and we’re thrilled to be able to add these aspects to Torment!
The organizers have initiated another Stretch of $4.5 Million but they expect to fall short on this goal on their Pay Pal follow on campaign.
