A Robocop statue in Detroit? I’d buy that for a dollar.
That’s exactly what legions of Robocop fans did in 2011. After Detroit Mayor Dave Bingkiboshed the idea on Twitter, a Kickstarter campaign managed to raise over $67,000 to get a statute of the iconic cyber-cop erected in the city.
Two years later, a 10-foot statue of director Paul Verhoeven’s titular protagonist is nearly complete and looking for a home in the Motor City. The statue was lifted to its feet Sunday, and will be heading to Venus Bronze Works in Detroit for casting and manufacturing in bronze.
