The Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign started by Actor / Directory Zach Braff closed yesterday. The final tally stood at $3,105,473 surpassing the original target of $2 Million by more than a million. The Braff campaign had captured wide spread media attention following the incredible success of the Veronica Mars crowdfunding effort. Much of the attention focused on the question as to whether someone of Braff’s financial status needed to leverage a crowdfunding platform to solicit funds for a Hollywood film.
The crowdfunding campaign for the film, “Wish I Was Here” which Braff hopes to debu at the Sundance Film Festival. His targeted commercial release currently stands at September of 2014.
The crowdfunding campaign was supported by 46,520 backers with rewards levels starting at $10. The higher rewards levels included the opportunity to participate in the film. The highest reward level at $10,000 was scooped up by a single supporter who will be given the opportunity to be part of the cast.
