The 3D printer called “The Buccaneer”, joins a growing group of 3D printers searching for funds on crowdfunding platforms. The Palo Alto, California based company crowdfunded this amount via 289 supporters but quickly surpassed the initial target and generated over a quarter million dollars with the support of 742 backers.
“I’m really overwhelmed, stepped out for a moment and came back to see that we’ve hit our funding goal. This is unprecedented,” says Brendan Goh, Pirate3D’s Chief of Operations.
Pirate3D’s product has attracted attention with due to its affordable price, unique design, and expected ease-of-use. With a price tag of $347, the 3D printer is currently at the low end of available offerings.
“We’re really thankful to all our gracious supporters,” says CEO Roger Chang. “We will continue to do our best to improve the Buccaneer. We intend to provide to you the best possible 3D printer so you can truly create at will.”
In a post on their crowdfunding page on Kickstarter the “Buccaneer” team stated,
Going pretty well on our maiden voyage. We are all so very very excited that our dream and project is off to a great start!
The sailing will go through its ups and downs, but we will see it through; and together with all of you, it will be one journey worth remembering.
Here we are at office, looking perhaps a bit tired (we work hard) but glowing inside! Although our funding goal has been reached, we are still looking to expand our crew and see how far we can go!
The crowdfunding campaign is expected to complete on June 29th.
