+POOL Kickstarter Part 2 To Be Fully Funded

+pool

With 24 hours left in the campaign the +POOL seems certain to be fully funded, needing just a few thousand dollars to reach a goal of $250K.

The +POOL project promises a pool that will float in the Hudson river, clean the river water and allow New Yorkers to swim in filtered river water for summers to come. An exploratory campaign for the +POOL raised $40K on Kickstarter, making this the second successful campaign for the civic project.

We’ve continued working with some of the world’s best engineers at Arup and some of the world’s most innovative designers at IDEO.  We’re working with environmental consultants at One Nature and have teamed up with both Storefront for Art and Architecture and Architizer to ensure that the project is designed and implemented in the best way possible.  We’re proud to be working with such amazing people and groups and are honored that they share our vision in the design, engineering, development and implementation of + POOL.

We recently reported on the +POOL and their approach to crowdfunding, funding the project literally one tile at a time…

Backers can support the project by staking their claim to one of 70,000 tiles that the design team says will be needed to build the final structure, bringing the total cost to around $15 million. The backers will receive their copy of the tiles in August of this year. The campaign then promises a second copy of each tile will be used in the construction of the pool itself when it launches sometime in the future.

The campaign funds an experimental “float lab” in the river this summer.

Over 2,800 people have contributed to the campaign to date. The team behind the +POOL expects to open the pool during the summer of 2016.
