Data storage device Plug, launched by Cloud Guys Corporation (CGC) a US / French start-up met their crowdfunding goal on Kickstarter of $69,000 in 12 hours and now stands at over $186,000. In a strategic act of successful pretail, Plug has proven an interest and demand for their unique, shared storage device.
Plug is a small adapter which is connected to the internet which transfers external USB drives into a central storage location for all of your devices inlcuding your smart phones and tablets. Almost like your own personal DropBox. They are marketing the product as a cheaper and faster option to traditional cloud based storage applications.
The rewards starts at $59 for a single device – add $10 for shipping. The device expects to ship in December of this year.
Using Kickstarter as a trial market for products is a fast growing strategy not just for start-ups but more established corporations. Executed efficiently, this tactic can quickly and inexpensively determine market demand – Plug is another example of this recent phenomena.
