In one of the more bizarre things I’ve seen covering the wonderful world of crowdfunding, a video promoting a Kickstarter campaign features a very naked Lady Gaga.
Serbian performance artist Marina Abramović was the subject of a documentary entitled The Artist Is Present, which followed her 736-hour performance at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. She is world renowned for her live performance art, and she has now turned to Kickstarter to fund an institute in her name with the aim of promoting these types of art.
Marina Abramovic Institute is dedicated to the presentation and preservation of long durational work, including that of performance art, dance, theater, film, music, opera, and other forms that may develop in the future. MAI will foster collaboration between art, science, technology, and spirituality, bringing these fields into conversation with long durational work. MAI will provide an educational space to host workshops, lectures, residencies, and research.
Lady Gaga is a big fan of Abramović and her work, and she was recently featured in a video promoting the effort. During parts of the video she is naked and in a state of meditation. It’s obviously NSFW.
