Dino Pet Passes Cruises Past Crowdfunding Goal, Stretch Goals Are Set

Dino PetYonder Biology launched their glowing Dino Pet on Kickstarter a little over two weeks ago hoping to raise $50,000 for their novel bio-luminescent pet.  Now the crowdfunding campaign stands at over $120,000 raised with two weeks remaining in their project.

The project organizers have leveraged biology – in the form of dinoflagellates which is a species of marine algae – to create this natural light.  The life of the Dino Pet, or at least the ability to glow, is about 1 to 3 months.  Fortunately you can purchase “Dino Food” and your pet can last forever.  The concept is amazing and a great way to teach kids (and adults) about this fascinating natural occurrence.

Augmented Reality Dino PetNow this very cool, successful crowdfunding project has set Stretch goals to hit $150,000.  Along with this goal comes the new augmented reality app – in combination with their story book –  for the backers.

“We’d like to bring the Dino Pet and story book to life by entering the Dino Pet’s world through augmented reality.  You’ll be able to manipulate and interact with the Dino Pet in its environment.”, says Paul Taylor, from Paul Dennis Taylor Entertainment. “You’ll be able to fully immerse yourself in the Dino Pet’s world using this augmented reality app.”

Bio-luminesence has been a hot crowdfunding field of late.  The Dino Pet is educational but also a unique, compelling product.  The demonstration of Dino is fascinating and the augmented reality video is interesting as well.  We hope to see more projects from Yonder.  They are already in the Smithsonian and have a series of other science related products on their site – alongside this Kickstarter project – so I am certain their is more to come.
