“Classified: The Edward Snowden Story” has already raised $87,700 on their own crowdfunding site. Add to that amount $746,050 raised via Bitcoin and project creators Travis Doering and Jason Bourque are well on their way to crowdfund their $1.7 Million goal.
Bourque will be the film director. He has written and directed a variety of television movies, series and documentaries. He is probably best known for the documentary “Shadow Company” which was narrated by Gerard Butler. Doering is acting as Producer for the project. He was previously a professional hacker or “penetration tester” for multiple Canadian companies after severing his association with the group known as Anonymous. Doering has also consulted on a series of high profile film productions including the Bond film Skyfall.
The Vancouver duo championing the Snowden film found strong interest in supporting their self crowdfunded production. But recently they shifted their crowdfunding effort to a Kickstarter campaign which is running now and scheduled to close on October 14th. They are looking to raise the additional $866,250 needed to fully complete the film.
If the pair are successful they plan on releasing their film for free, starting with bit torrent web site Pirate Bay.
The Snowden film is a biopic that will tell the story of Edward Snowden starting from the time he enlisted in the US army. In this 2 hour feature, they will explore the events leading up to the release of classified information on the National Security Agency’s various surveillance programs. The script was apparently written by a very well known writer who wishes to remain anonymous. The story is currently being revised as Doering and Bourque work with former government employees and people who knew Snowden himself. The project is expected to be film in its entirety in Vancouver and hopefully will be completed in late 2014.
The rewards on the Kickstarter campaign start at just $10 (Canadian) and go up to$8000 for an Executive Producer slot. There is 1 of 2 left if you are interested. They do have some competition for this subject as there are rumblings that Leonardo Di Caprio’s Appian Way is considering producing a similar project about the Snowden odyssey.
