In a video produced by Silicon Real (who do great work by the way), UK based Tribesports share their experience with crowdfunding on Kickstarter. Tribesports, which we first covered this past August, ran an enormously successful campaign raising £119,458 on a goal of just £30,000. Tribesports is one of the worlds largest online sports community with over 200,000 members from around the world. Tribesports ran the campaign as they wanted to “Revolutionize the Sportswear Industry”. Their mission was to provide very high quality sports clothing at a significantly lower price point by cutting out the middle man.
Since the company is based in the UK they had the option to go with an equity crowdfunding campaign but they chose to go rewards based instead as this did not fit their strategy. The pretail campaign was obviously a great success – proving consumer interest while providing the funds to initiate production.
Great interview for anyone considering a pretail type crowdfunding campaign. These guys did it right.
