The Most Successful Kickstarter Category May Surprise You

kickstarter-kCredit where credit is due: SFGate did a simple extrapolation on publicly-available Kickstarter data, and that turned up a pretty interesting stat about the success rate of Kickstarter projects. Guess which category of Kickstarter projects can boast the highest success rate.

No, not stalwart categories like Technology or Games. 71% of Kickstarter projects launched in the Dance category go on to be fully-funded, a pretty incredible statistic.

Publishing comes in last in the heap with a 32% success rate.

Interestingly, dance-related projects account for the second-lowest total number of Kickstarter campaigns across all available categories. The only category with less throughput on the world’s most recognizable crowdfunding site? Technology projects.

Of course, success is not measured by the rate of full funding alone. The dance category represents the lowest funding total across verticals. At $160 million in total funding, the games category is the most funded segment, representing a total 35 times that of the dance category.
