Tikker On Kickstarter: Death Watch Counts Down Your Living Moments

As we approach Halloween in the US, this seems appropriately macabre: a watch currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter counts down the moments until you die, providing a constant reminder of how precious life is.

All we have to do is learn how to cherish the time and the life that we have been given, to honor it, suck the marrow from it, seize the day and follow our hearts. And the best way to do this is to realize that seconds, days and years are passing never to come again. And to make the right choices.

The watch is relatively handsome, with an extremely simple & chunky design similar to many newer watches. To set the Tikker up, the user simply fills out a questionnaire and subtracts his or her age. Obviously, it is not an exact science, nor does it claim to be. The Tikker campaign page suggests it is more of a “best before” date than a “drop dead” date.

The team has been working on the device for two years. They say they have “sourced a very experienced team of manufacturers and component suppliers from around the world” and are confident they can deliver on rewards. A copy of the watch is supposed to come with a pledge at or above $39.

They call it a “happiness watch,” a device to buck the trend of putting everyone’s email inboxes on their wrists. The happiness part is debatable.
