Kickstarter Shares Stats From First Year In The UK

Funded With KickstarterIt is almost hard to believe that Kickstarter has already been operating in the UK for a year already. Believe it; Kickstarter launched in the UK on Halloween 2012. From that first year, Kickstarter CEO Yancey Strickler has gleaned a handful of statistics. Those stats were shared in a post to Kickstarter’s blog today.

The stats include:

Total Pledged: £22,481,158 ($35,097,865)
Successfully Funded Projects: 1,558
Total Pledged Per Minute: £43
Total Backers of UK projects: 322,536
UK-based Project Backers, by location: UK: 40% | US: 26% | EU: 21% | Rest of the world: 13%

So, perhaps the most interesting stat here is where the funding is coming from. Less than half of funding for UK-based Kickstarter projects comes from UK citizens. This is a clear indication that Kickstarter has build a truly global crowdfunding platform, and that stands to continue as Kickstarter continues their mission to expand into previously unserved markets.

Kickstarter’s mission is to help people bring their creative projects to life. We’re excited by what’s happened in the UK in year one, and we look forward to seeing what happens in years two, ten, and beyond. Thanks so much for being a part of it.Yancey Strickler, Kickstarter CEO
