The Sleeping Room is a “supernatural gothic horror film” from the same producers that made the film Panic Button, which received 5.2/10 stars on IMDb on an estimated budget of £300,000. The film is now offering a 10.42% equity stake to investors on UK crowdfunding platform Seedrs. The producers are seeking a £25,000 investment from the crowd in exchange for equity.
In addition to seeking funding on Seedrs, the producers have also created a page on Slated, a matchmaking service for film financing – think AngelList for movies.
It’s very exciting to be at the forefront of this new wave of fundraising for films, and it’s great to be able to offer actual equity to our supporters. Now almost anybody can be a film investor, and so it’s only right that our backers should share in any financial success that stems from our production.John Shackleton, Director
Thus far the film has raised £1,620 toward their £25,000 goal. Investments are eligible for the UK’s SEIS tax scheme, which mitigates some of the downside risk through a tax incentive.
Filming is slated to begin in December of this year.
This is said to be the first instance of a UK movie crowdfunding for equity according to filmnews.co.uk.
