“Prison Architect” Uses SendOwl To Raise Over $8 Million In Crowdfunding Effort

introversion softwareThe solutions for crowdfunding initiatives grow more numerous by the day. One that is just hitting our radar is SendOwl, an e-commerce solution that UK indie developer Introversion Software has used in a crowdfunding effort for their new game, Prison Architect.

The game has raised over $8 million thus far from over 250,000 backers, an enormous amount of money considering the funds have been raised without the help of a major crowdfunding platform – and the associated visibility that comes with listing on one.

prison architectHere’s how it works: backers can pledge on the Prison Architect web site and in exchange they get a Steam Key to unlock the alpha version of the game. They also net a preorder for the full version when it comes out down the line.

Steam is the ever-growing video game marketplace from gaming stalwarts Valve. In short, Steam is really disruptive for the video game industry. It has companies like Sony and Microsoft on their toes, and it has certainly contributed to the resurgences of both PC gaming and indie developers.

Welcome to the world of crowdfunding, where you can raise $8 million and still fly relatively under the radar.
