We recently reported on tabletop gaming being a huge segment of successful Kickstarter raises. It seems the trend continues.
A Mega Man board game in development by Lubbock, Texas-based Jasco Games is crowdfunding on Kickstarter now, and the campaign quickly met a $70,000 goal. It has now ballooned to over $200,000 with more pledges rolling in.
The campaign page says that the game is designed to capture the side-scrolling action of the ubiquitous Mega Man video games. Since the campaign has garnered so much funding in such short order, Jasco Games has said that they are going to “work on expanding the game.” It seems the crowd’s support will make a better end product for backers and eventual retail customers.
In what seems to be a very smart strategy during the campaign, stretch goals are unlocking add-ons that can be had to an additional pledge of $5. This is encouraging early backers to come back and up their pledges once these goals are met.
Backers can rest assured that Jasco Games has some experience in delivering tabletop games such as this Mega Man rendition. In the risks and challenges section of the campaign, they address their readiness to deliver on rewards…
To help ensure realistic deadlines, we have completed the vast majority of our development before launching the Kickstarter. Sculpts for the game pieces are almost entirely complete. The rulebook and game components are deep in development and will be ready for layout soon. Our manufacturers are also ready and have reserved factory time for the project. This means that as soon as the project is funded, we can lock down a timeline with our manufacturers to get the game produced.
The campaign has already registered over 1,600 backers. We’d expect this one to continue to grow, and could even join the list of million-dollar Kickstarter campaigns at some point.
