Yesterday, December 18, 2013, a debate was held in Westminster Hall regarding crowdfunding. Labour MP Barry Sheerman led the discussion and described the opportunity as a bit of a Christmas present as this was the first ever debate on the innovative form of financing.
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has just finished a “consultation” regarding regulating the burgeoning industry and many participants are concerned that the heavy hand of regulations may diminish the potential economic impact of this form of capital formation. Sheerman describes crowdfunding as “one of the most vibrant, exciting, and important industries to have appeared in the past decade”.
