The Dash Wireless Headphones Raises Over $3.3 Million

The Dash iPhone AppCrowdfunding on Kickstarter, the Dash has closed their funding round having raised $3,390,551 as 15,998 backers came together to fund this innovative product.  Dash is a wireless, smart headphone that bests any device in the market today (at least that I know about).

Nikolaj HviidThe Dash was created by a German company, Bragi, that was founded by a group of managers with deep industry experience.  CEO Nikolaj Hviid was previously head of design at well-known global audio company Harman.  The development team now numbers 20 individuals with past experience in bringing over 400 products to market.

The Dash is not just a bluetooth headset without wires – something in itself groundbreaking.  The device will include a microprocessor that will allow integrated apps to leverage the wearable tech. An SDK is expected soon so developers may start offering up their own software to take advantage of what could be a huge electronic hit in the wearable tech space.

As the world has become accustomed to smart phones, there is a growing acceptance that technology that is powerful yet unseen is the definitive future. The Dash takes several steps in this direction as the earbuds will be designed to be barely visible but will incorporate functions such as listening to music, making phone calls and monitoring activity.

Bragi imagines the Dash becoming:

  • A Fitness Coach
  • Health Monitor
  • Walkie-Talkie
  • Presentation prompter
  • Language Translator
  • Personal Sight Seeing Guide
  • And much more

The Dash in HandThe technology to accomplish these goals was until recently unattainable but the fast developing space has now created an environment where such functionality is within grasp.

The product is still in development and Bragi readily acknowledges there are risks to building the final product.  For some of the components only a single supplier exists a situation that can imperil and hardware device.  The product specs are impressive.  The waterproof earbuds include multiple sensors and GPS with a battery that is expected to last 3 hours play time.  The target ship date for backers is posted at later in 2014 with delivery dates staggered depending on the reward level.

In a note to supporters the Bragi team thanked all their backers:

Feeling blessed and thankful for such a great feedback from all over the world. Almost 16,000 people supporting the BRAGI experience.

As the crowdfunding round closed, the Munich based Bragi team stated they “are confident that the Dash will become a truly remarkable addition to our lives”.
