Lending his hand to help the film industry, Ben Affleck signed on to appear in the film “LADDIE.” The documentary made headlines earlier this month when it announced the launch of its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. It is an “exclusive look at the most influential movie mogul you’ve never heard of.”
The documentary explores the life of director Alan Ladd Jr., also known as Laddie, who is also referred to as the “invisible man” of film. It draws its inspiration from several documentaries including “MY ARCHITECT” and the “KID STAYS IN THE PICTURE.” The story will be told through a combination of visuals and interviews, which are conducted by Laddie’s daughter, Amanda.
Not only has Mr. Affleck donated funds for the film, he along with George Lucas, Ron Howard, Sigourney Weaver, Mel Gibson, Morgan Freeman, Mel Brooks and Richard Donner are a few that Amanda chats with. Through personal stories, the audience will meet with some of Hollywood’s most well known stars and will get an special inside look at the most influential films, actors and filmmakers of the last 50 years.
Team LADDIE Movie is seeking to raise $67,350, which will help fund four more films of interviews in and out of California; music and film clip rights and clearances; finishing costs including color correction, audio mix, final editing, etc.; film festival costs, promotions, advertising and marketing.
The crew stated, “The biggest challenge in ‘LADDIE’ is, and has always been, financial. From our illustrious interviewees to our amazing team, there is no lack of enthusiasm for – or commitment to –our project. Unfortunately, without proper funding, we have been forced to work on the project in small segment with long periods of inactivity in between. The greatest risk facing ‘LADDIE’ is that stories like his never get told.”
The film team also noted that they love their backers because “with [their] generous support, Laddie will no longer be the most influential movie mogul you’ve never heard of.”
