Croatia based Zip is the very first startup incubator in the country. Having already assisted “four generations’ of Croatian startups achieve their goals the organization is now seeking additional capital to make small seed investments via equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs.
Zip was co-founded by Mihaovil Barančić, who is also the President of the Croatian Angel Invesors Network (CRANE), as he strives to finance talented entrepreneurs across the central / eastern European region.
“The region has phenomenal entrepreneurial talent and potential but a serious lack of funding options. This is a small initial amount to raise but nevertheless it is a very important step not only for ZIP, but for the entire Croatian and regional ecosystem as we continue to showcase our potential.
“With a successful crowdfunding campaign, we will finally be able to fund some of the best Croatian teams, and attract many more from neighboring countries, such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia, to Zagreb.”
The incubator, founded in 2012, recently made some changes to their program and they just closed applications for their 5th generation of startups. This new round will provide up to 15,000 EUR in seed investments.
Zip boasts an impressive list of names on their advisory board including: Dave McClure of 500Startups, Carlos Eduardo Espinal of SeedCamp, Stefan Glaenzer of Passion Capital / White Bear Yard, Nenad Marovac of DN Capital and Antti Ylimutka of Startup Sauna.
As part of their equity crowdfunding campaign they are looking to raise £50,000 for their fund. The campaign launched this past Friday will be live on Seedrs for the next two months. As of today the goal is already over 36% funded.
