StandDesk Raises Over $600,000 Crowdfunding on Kickstarter

It has made headlines for being both automatic and affordable, now Steven Yu’s brand-new StandDesk will be available to everyone thanks to the success of its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The desk has managed to not only attract all kinds attention due to its impressive features but also the fact that its inexpensive compared to others.StandDesk

Unlike regular desks that make a person sit for hours on end, standing desks allow for more movement and alternating between sitting, standing or leaning. The main point of choosing the desk isn’t for over sitting but rather to change the user’s posture every 20 to 40 minutes. Other standing desk benefits include reducing the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes/other metabolic problems, cardiovascular disease, and cancer along with lower long-term mortality risk.

StandDesk has standard up and down controls, a number of different surface colors, and a cable management in the back. Mr. Yu made his desk more affordable by managing to simplify the mechanics that go into the raising and lowering, with it ranging from 28 to 45 inches. This should accommodate anyone as tall as 6’3. Its lifting dimensions are up to 1143 mm and down to 711.2 mm. It may also life 102.06 kg (225 lbs). What really catches the customer’s eye the most, the price is only $399.

 

Steven YuDuring a recent interview, Mr. Yu stated, “[The] ‘traditional’ sit-to-stand desks are designed way more complicated than they should be. I just simplified everything while finding the perfect balance between function, quality and price.”

 

Also sharing details as to how he came up with the desk, Mr. Yu explained, “After my motorcycle accident, I wanted a natural solution for my back pain. But I didn’t want to spend thousands of dollars for an automatic standing desk.”

 

In regard to the future of StandDesk, Mr. Yu added, “[There] are several national retailers interested, which I’m not allowed to disclose their names, that have taken a keen interest in StandDesk. We plan to continually refine the product and integrate ‘smart’ technology into the desk. Again, I cannot disclosed details just yet, but let’s just say, my vision of the future of Stand Desk is in technology, not furniture.”

StandDesk gained popularity quickly on Kickstarter, and managed to hit its goal of $50,000 just 38 minutes after its campaign launch.  The project closed having raised $649,244 from 1,697 backers.  Delivery for backers is expected in September of this year.
