Taiwan-based inventor, Jeremy Shu, has turned to the Kickstarter crowd to fund his new project, Mozbii. The device has been dubbed the world’s first color picking stylus and was seeking to raise only $30,000. Within one week, the Mozbii crowdfunding campaign hit its goals and has so far reached $40,901 all thanks to 152 backers.

Mozbii 1According to its pitch, Mozbii was specifically designed for kids and enables the exploration of their surrounding while at the same time interacting with their favorite colors on tablet screens in a coloring book app.

Critics from TechNode wrote, “This amazing stylus allows children to capture a color by simply pressing the sensor of the Mozbii against the desired surface, say, a tabletop, or a flower petal. Once the buzzer beeps to confirm that the color has been stored, kids can then doodle to their hearts’ delight on a tablet screen with the color they had captured just seconds before.”

Sharing details about the device, the Mozbii team explained, “The goal was to integrate technology into the learning process of kids. Something that would help them explore the world around them, rather than simply staring at the screen.”

“The lollipop-shaped Mozbii is a capacitive-type stylus, with a built-in color-sensor that will work with your typical Android and iOS tablets. The color-picking is easy. Simply press against the surface from which the color is to be duplicated, wait for the LED display to light-up and blink the captured color, then draw that color on the supplied coloring-book app.”

Also noting its quality, the team stated, “Mozbii is designed to last for a long time, even when used by a toddler. No button pressed are required to capture colors, but a simple press of the sensor side against the capturing surface, and the sensor is activated automatically. The flexible neck is designed with medical grade silica-gel to last millions of presses without warping, and the materials used to construct this pen is certified to be child-safe and toxin-free.”

“A magnet is built inside, so that Mozbii can be attached to a fridge at home or white board in a classroom environment. This way, the stylus stays in the most visible lace in a home or classroom, so it will be easy to locate, and ready to access.”

Mozbii comes in the following colors:

  • White
  • Ice blue
  • Pink
  • Blue
  • Black
  • Orange
