Gay Indie Film Retake Gets Greenlight After Receiving Funding Boost on Kickstarter

Retake 1Retake, the new gay indie film starring Luke Pasqualino (UK’s SkinsThe Borgias) as a male prostitute has been given the greenlight.  Nick Corporon, director of the LGBT festival favorite short film Barbie Boy is directing from his own screenplay, with a story by Corporon, Gareth Dutton, Collin Brazie, and Justin Bailey. The greenlight comes on the heels of the film reaching its Kickstarter goal yesterday. Retake will go into production in February 2015.

As previously reportedRetake revolves around a young male prostitute (Pasoualino), who is hired by Jonathan, a lonely middle-aged man, to be his companion on a road trip from San Francisco to the Grand Canyon. In an effort to give his new friend a new life and to help him escape from his past, Jonathan names the escort “Brandon.” The young man quickly comes to realize that he’s playing a pivotal part of Jonathan’s desire to relive his past. Retake is a story about exploration of love, loss, identity and the delicate balance of moving towards an uncertain future.

There’s still time to give to the project. While their main goal has been met, producers are looking for $5,000 more to hit newly announced stretch goals that include a filmmaker commentary track and a companion short film that will set the stage for Retake.

Luke PasqualinoThe additional funding will also “ease the pain of indie film production,” according to Retake director Nick Corporon.“While our campaign was a success, we still face the up-hill battle of producing a good movie on very limited means,” he explained.“These additional funds will help ease that burden.”

Producer Sean Mandell stated,“We’re so excited that we had Kickstarter to turn to. There’s a terrific audience out there, hungry for these stories, but the powers-at-be aren’t interested in making them. Thankfully Kickstarter supporters have spoken and our movie is getting made!”

In addition to Pasqualino, currently starring as D’artagnan on BBC’s The Musketeers, the cast includes Kit Williamson from AMC’s Mad Men and Logo’s Eastsiders, who will also be playing a male prostitute.  Also in the cast is hunky Derek Phillips, best known as Taylor Kitsch’s older brother on NBC’s Friday Night Lights.
