“Imagine the work of Angry Woebots, Jim Mahfood, Junko Mizuno, kozyndan, Skinner, and Tara McPherson popping up from the page in magnificent detail before your eyes? That’s the experience readers will have when they crack open The Pop Up Art Book,” according to Poposition Press, referring to its newly overfunding Kickstarter campaign. This small but interesting campaign quickly drew in over 170 backers and more than $17,800 in funding:
“With all the preparation I’ve done to market the book to the existing fanbase I’ve been building over the last year, I did not expect the general public (kickstarter backers) to support the book as much as they have, which accounts for about 1/3 of sales in fact. This validates not just the art popup book idea but also that the concept it is marketable to a wider audience,” wrote Poposition Press Founder Rosston Meyer via email. “The vision I have is to continue making these books, and this project is a sort of test run to see how viable it is to do small runs of popup books at a factory, which is something that nobody in the industry really does. Moving forward, you can expect more artist books as well as single poster sized pages that are designed to be hung from the wall.”
This colorful, intricately crafted book features multi-dimensional spreads from internationally renowned artists who are each recognized for their unique work.
“We selected some of the most creative artists working today,” says Poposition Press Founder Rosston Meyer. “The work spans fine art, street art, comic book, and illustration genres. Being able to deconstruct and then reconstruct the art into something new was exciting. It has been such an innovative and collaborative project— and I think that energy shines right through. It’s a kick to watch people open the book. They literally marvel at the work and spend time with each spread to appreciate all the detail.”
