Inboard Action Sports Launches Kickstarter For Skateboard with Motors Inside the Wheels

The Monolith 4

Say goodbye to electric skateboards that ride like mush and don’t glide. Inboard has created, the Monolith, an electric skateboard that has the motor built inside the rear wheels and rides smooth – whether you’re riding powered or not. The patented “Manta Drive” technology was born out of the idea that an electric skateboard should flow. The Manta Drive has no gearing and no belts. Only power, responsive acceleration, and glide.

The Monolith 1The Monolith reaches a top speed of 24mph that can be adjusted by an intuitive mobile app. Battery range is 10 miles and may be extended on the fly with Inboard’s industry-first swappable Power Shift battery packs.

Inboard has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise additional capital that will be used to purchase custom molds and tooling. This will allow Inboard to bring the Monolith to market at an affordable price point while maintaining high standards for design and performance. Pre-order the Monolith now at an early-backer price of $899 -$1,199.

Co-founder of Inboard, Ryan Evans stated:

The Monolith 5“We believe this is Technology That Flows. This is true in both a literal sense, like when you’re riding the Monolith, and in a broader design sense. Our board is designed to be more than an electric skate. It’s an entire ecosystem that encourages third party development, customization, and personalization.”

Theo Cerboneschi, co-founder of Inboard, added:

“We believe that form and function are not mutually exclusive. If you look at the electric skateboards on the market today they aren’t very good looking. Most have battery packs slapped all over the bottom. It’s extremely important to us that our boards not only ride great but they look amazing. I’m happy to say we’ve accomplished both with the Monolith.”

Since its launch on Wednesday (March 4th), Monolith’s campaign has raised over $60,000 thanks to nearly 100 backers. It is set to close on April 4th.
